PXG Club Fitting Review: My Honest Thoughts

PXG Club Fitting Review

One of the core principles of Wicked Smart Golf is helping golfers improve without obsessing over swing changes. While lessons, practice, and fitness all play an important role, many golfers overlook one of the fastest ways to improve their game: getting properly fit for equipment.

The reality is simple. If your clubs aren't matched to your swing, you're making a hard game even more difficult. The wrong shaft, lie angle, loft, or club design can lead to inconsistent ball striking, poor distance control, and larger shot dispersion.

That's why I'm a huge believer in club fitting and why I talk a ton about it inside Wicked Smart Golf II.

Since 2023, I've completed three separate PXG fittings, including a hybrid fitting, a full iron fitting in 2023, and a 2026 fitting for new irons and wedges. I've been through a lot of fittings over the years, and PXG continues to provide one of the best experiences I've found.

In this PXG fitting review, I'll break down the entire process, discuss the PXG fitting cost, explain what to expect during a fitting, and share my personal experience after multiple fittings and thousands of shots hit with their clubs.

PXG Fitting Review: The Best In Golf?

Most golfers spend countless hours searching YouTube for swing tips when their current equipment may be working against them. A proper fitting helps ensure your clubs complement your natural swing rather than forcing you to make compensations.

The goal isn't to reinvent your swing—it's to optimize your equipment so you can play your best golf with the swing you already have.

A quality fitting can help:

  • Tighten shot dispersion
  • Optimize launch and spin
  • Make the game more enjoyable
  • Increase confidence over the ball
  • Improve distance and consistency
  • Improve gapping throughout the bag

This is especially important if you're buying new clubs, haven't been fit in several years, or have never gone through a professional fitting process. While no fitting will magically turn you into a scratch golfer, it can help you get more out of your current game without making a single swing change.

What Happens During a PXG Fitting?

One of the questions I hear most often from golfers is what actually happens during a custom fitting session. While every fitter has their own style, my PXG fitting experience has been very consistent over the years.

The process starts by scheduling a fitting online or at a local PXG fitting location. Once you arrive, you'll meet with your fitter (I’ve worked with Camden N. in Scottsdale and Mike F. in Mesa).

Upon arrival, they will discuss your current game, equipment, and goals before hitting a single shot. Always bring your own equipment (clubs + normal shoes) to test vs. new clubs.

During each of my fittings, the conversation included:

  • Current clubs and specifications
  • Typical ball flight
  • Common misses
  • Distance gaps
  • Areas of frustration
  • Goals for the fitting

After the initial discussion, you'll begin hitting shots using a Trackman launch monitor (the best in the game). The launch monitor captures key data points such as ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, carry distance, and dispersion. Don’t worry too much about the numbers; that’s what a fitter can help with.

What I appreciate most about the PXG fitting process is that it never felt like a sales pitch. Instead, it felt educational. My fitters explained what the numbers meant, why certain shafts performed better than others, and how small adjustments could improve consistency and distance.

Throughout the fitting, you'll test different club heads, shafts, lie angles, lofts, and other specifications until you find a combination that produces the best results for your swing. The goal isn't to simply hit one great shot—it's to identify the setup that delivers the most consistent performance over time.

If you have never been fit before, the experience can be eye-opening. Many players discover they're using shafts that don't match their swing speed, lie angles that promote poor contact, or clubs that create unnecessary distance gaps throughout the bag.

My PXG Fitting Experience

One of the reasons I feel comfortable writing this PXG fitting review is that I've gone through three separate fittings since 2023 and have purchased multiple clubs that are still in my bag today.

As a competitive golfer and founder of Wicked Smart Golf, I'm always looking for ways to improve my performance without making unnecessary swing changes. One thing that separates PXG from many other manufacturers is their dedicated retail and fitting locations. Instead of testing clubs at a demo day or inside a generic golf store, you're getting a premium one-on-one experience in a facility built specifically around fitting and performance.

At the time of my most recent fitting, I was playing to roughly a +2 handicap and looking to optimize my setup heading into another competitive season.

Fitting #1: Finding the Perfect Hybrid

My first PXG fitting was focused on solving a very specific problem: I needed a reliable club that carried around 230-240 yards.

Like many golfers, I went through the endless cycle of testing different options. I tried hybrids, driving irons, 7-woods, and even 9-woods, but nothing gave me the combination of distance, consistency, and confidence I was looking for.

During the fitting process, we found a PXG hybrid that immediately stood out. The launch, spin, and forgiveness were exactly what I needed, and for the first time I felt like I had a dependable club for that yardage window.

I purchased the club in 2023, and it remains one of my favorite clubs to this day. In fact, it's probably one of the most reliable clubs I've ever owned and has saved me countless shots in tournament play.

Fitting #2: Upgrading My Irons and Putter

After several months of success with the hybrid, I decided it was time to look at my irons. At the time, I was playing a very small blade-style iron that simply wasn't a good fit for my game. While they looked great behind the ball, they weren't nearly forgiving enough for the type of golf I wanted to play.

The fitting process quickly showed that I was leaving performance on the table. One of the biggest eye-openers was being introduced to a combo set.

Instead of using the same iron throughout the entire bag, the fitter recommended more forgiving long irons while maintaining a player's profile in the scoring clubs. The result was a PXG GEN5 combo set with more forgiveness in the 5 and 6 irons while keeping the look and feel I wanted throughout the rest of the bag.

I absolutely loved those irons and played them from 2023 through 2026; some of the best golf of my life came with that set in the bag. Not only did they improve consistency, but they also provided more 7-8 yards of more distance and forgiveness than my previous irons.

That same fitting I got a new putter too and used it for years.

Fitting #3: New Irons and Wedges

My most recent 2026 PXG fitting started with a fairly simple goal: I was keen to explore moving into smaller gap and pitching wedges while evaluating whether it was time to upgrade my iron setup.

What surprised me most was how much technology had improved since my previous fitting.

After testing several combinations, I ultimately ended up with a new PXG Gen8 combo set featuring the latest generation irons and wedges. The updated weighting system, improved feel, and cleaner overall design immediately stood out during the fitting process.

The new setup delivered excellent distance control, consistency, and forgiveness while still maintaining the player-preferred look I wanted. So far, I may like this set even more than my previous GEN5 irons—which is saying a lot considering how much success I had with those clubs.
